Flower Care & Delivery Guide
At Manhattan Valley Florist, our work centers on premium seasonal flowers, with a particular emphasis on peonies and garden roses, which we offer year-round when available. These varieties are known for their beauty, fragrance, and movement — and they can also be more responsive to their environment.
With proper care, most arrangements will last 5–7 days, and often longer.
Placement & Environment
Place your flowers in a cool room, away from direct sunlight and heat sources such as radiators, fireplaces, appliances, or vents.
Peonies and garden roses are especially sensitive to warmth. Heat may cause blooms to open rapidly and shorten their vase life, while cooler conditions help extend longevity.
Daily Water Care
Check the water level daily and top off with fresh, clean water as needed.
Make sure the ends of the stems remain fully submerged at all times.
These flowers are heavy drinkers, and even one dry day can significantly reduce their lifespan.
Refreshing the Water
Every few days, refresh the water completely by carefully pouring out the old water while holding the bouquet securely in place.
Refill the container with clean, fresh water. There is no need to remove or rearrange the flowers. This helps reduce bacteria while keeping the design intact.
Keeping Water Clean
To help maintain water quality and extend the life of your flowers, you may add flower food if provided, or one small drop of household bleach to the water.
Use sparingly — one drop is enough. Excess bleach can damage flowers.
Natural Bloom Variation
Peonies and garden roses may arrive at varying stages of openness. Some blooms may be tight upon arrival and open gradually, while others may open more quickly.
This variation is natural and expected when working with fresh, living materials, particularly outside of peak growing season.
Delivery & Handling
Deliveries are timed as accurately as possible; however, exact delivery times cannot be guaranteed.
If no one is available to receive the order, arrangements may be left in a secure location at the driver’s discretion, weather permitting.
Once delivered, responsibility for the flowers passes to the recipient. Exposure to extreme heat, cold, or direct sunlight after delivery may affect longevity.
Please include any special delivery instructions (doorman, concierge, call upon arrival) at checkout.
Seasonal Availability & Substitutions
Our designs are guided by seasonality and market availability. In rare cases, substitutions may be necessary.
Any substitutions will be made thoughtfully and will maintain the overall style, value, and quality of the arrangement.
